ECONOMICALLY ORIENTED RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING OF BONE CHANGES IN LOWER EXTREMITY BURNS: A NEW CLINICAL APPROACH

Deep burn injuries involving bones and joints are recorded in approximately 3–6% of patients. Radiographic evaluation remains a vital tool not only for assessing bone and joint involvement but also for informing long-term rehabilitation strategies. In this study, 79 radiographic exams were performed on patients with lower limb burns, revealing frequent complications such as osteoporosis, osteolysis, dislocations, and subluxations.
Our findings suggest that skeletal remodeling typically stabilizes 2–3 years post-intervention. Importantly, the intensity of osteoarticular damage and the patient’s age directly influence the cost and duration of rehabilitation. From an economic standpoint, early and regular imaging allows for timely diagnosis and targeted treatment, ultimately reducing long-term orthopedic and surgical expenses.
